This blog is solely to provide information on the sole proprietorship, Little Dogs Media, and any books or games that are or will be published via the Little Dogs Media name. All information on this site is the property of Little Dogs Media or its owner (me) as well as all apps it references.
Purpose:
Little Dogs Media has the goal to create book-like games (stories that truly are stories but are enhanced with game elements). This is versus the idea of games but with either heavy or light 'narrative' elements. There are others out there who also keep trying to get the mix just right, from visual novels, to enhanced pdf formats. So I am just one of many who love stories, but want a bit more pizzazz and sometimes interactivity in that story.
As mentioned, Little Dogs Media (LDM) is currently a sole proprietorship, a startup; so LDM is not hiring as this time.
Background:
Little Dogs Media, Kent, Washington State, USA, was established as a sole proprietorship (using the registered DBA Tradename Little Dogs Media) in 2005, but was already working on ideas and projects related to games and game/apps in 1998 under the owner's name or later, under registered DBA tradename Odin Intelligence & Research, doing marketing related mini games and website design analysis and research. There was even an early prototype presented to a defense contractor related to analysis and detection of potential malware via 2D visualization of the code's underlying file format.
The owner of Little Dogs Media has a research background in physics as well as computer science (graphics) and has worked at large FAANG companies (before the acronym FAANG was used.) She is also an author with a love of adventure stories, educational stories, and stories that center on strong female characters. She has done graduate research in computer science as well as published research on barriers and ways to encourage girls' and women in STEM.
But working on books with enhanced interactivity has been the main passion project of Little Dogs Media and it's sole proprietor, who has also authored eBook adventure/magic novels (available on Barnes and Noble). Wanting to expand on the interactivity of eBooks and bring in advancements in computer graphics and animation is the origin and driving force of Little Dogs Media.
First Apps (into AR we go!):
The first app published on GooglePlay was an experimental AR app that integrated 3D animations with book covers, and managed to push 1 million pixels per frame on a mid-level (now 10+ years out of date) tablet using a beta version Qualcomm Vuforia. A second experiment used a custom AR solution and manager layer that was added on to Unity (pre any internal Unity AR solutions) and showed the ability to do custom camera VFX warping of live images to create invisible boxes (so you're hand could 'wrap around' a figure) using custom code, early OpenCV algorithms, and marker based, single camera AR.
Current work is focused on interactivity (no AR/VR) using game engines and appropriate storytelling methods for hybrid books.
These experimental apps are no longer available on Google Play but images of them are still available on my LinkedIn profile for those still curious.
